LOMBOK – 5P Global Movement and ECCO Foundation collaborated to hold a Medical Check-up Day for the residents of Genggelang village who had no access to healthcare.
The check-up was carried out to fulfill one of 5P Global Movement’s core values of caring for people by upholding the sanctity of human life, as well as ECCO Foundation’s own obligations to care for the inhabitants of North Lombok.
The day’s activities were carried out by and under the supervision of volunteering doctors from the University of Mataram, the Basantb community, and other young volunteers, taking place in two locations, on Sunday (12/01/2024).
Before beginning the medical check-up, 5P Global Movement, ECCO, as well as our volunteer doctors conducted research and a survey to ensure that the check-up was in line with the needs of the people of Genggelang and North Lombok.
Using data provided by the Central Agency of Statistics of West Nusa Tenggara, we determined that North Lombok Regency was in need of better healthcare access. According to the agency’s statistics, North Lombok was the third-highest regency for residents that reported health complaints, with 42,28% of its inhabitants expressing their health concerns in 2023.
Health problems in North Lombok include both high and low blood pressure, diarrhea, migraines, indigestion, skin infections, waterborne parasites, gout, and fever.
According to medical experts, these issues are also exacerbated by extreme weather conditions caused by climate change.
To immediately alleviate this, 5P Global Movement and ECCO Foundation also donated basic pharmaceuticals such as Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, Ketoconazole, Piroxicam, and so on to Gelanggang.
“We also provided access to Vitamin C and B Complex to safeguard the daily physical health of the inhabitants. Our partnering medical team also provided on-site medical services such as physical check ups, blood pressure checks, and in-person health consultations with volunteer doctors,” said Hendra Adhigoena as Project Manager.
Other than medical services, we also provided a door prize to raise the enthusiasm of local residents and to foster good relationships and trust between Genggelang and the medical institutions serving them.
The door prizes included Teflon cookware, rice cookers, electronic fans, foodstuffs, and an Android handphone provided by basantb. The total value of door prizes available amounted to Rp. 10.000.000.
The residents were very enthusiastic about participation in our program. In the two locations where we held medical checks, we attracted over 400 adults, children, and elders from a wide variety of socio-economic and religious backgrounds.
We received an extremely positive reaction from villagers, who expressed that they hoped for a repeat of the Medical Check-Up Day and door prizes in the near future.
